Brave the altitude and be dazzled by the intense turquoise waters of Humantay Lagoon, guarded by the majestic snow-capped peaks of Salkantay and Humantay. This trek will take you through spectacular glacial landscapes, connecting you with the sacred energy of the Andean mountains on an unforgettable day of pure nature and personal growth.

  • 4:30 AM – Hotel Pickup and Departure from Cusco: We will pick you up from your hotel in our air-conditioned tourist vehicle to begin the journey northwest of Cusco.

    7:30 AM – Buffet Breakfast in Mollepata: Stop in the town of Mollepata to enjoy a complete and warm buffet breakfast (hot drinks, bread, fruit, eggs, and oatmeal) to fuel your day.

    9:30 AM – Arrival at Soraypampa and Opening Briefing: Arrival at the starting point in Soraypampa (COP $3,900). The guide will give a brief orientation briefing, followed by short warm-up exercises and distribution of trekking poles.

    9:45 AM – Trekking to Humantay Lagoon: You will begin the steady ascent (1.5 to 2 hours) along a rocky path surrounded by the impressive Vilcabamba mountain range.

    11:15 AM – Arrival and Exploration Time at Humantay Lagoon (CLP 4,200): Conquer the lagoon! You’ll have time to admire the turquoise hues of its waters, take spectacular photographs, make a small offering with coca leaves (payment to Mother Earth), and absorb the mystique of the place.

    12:30 PM – Descent to Soraypampa: Begin the return hike (approximately 1 hour) to the parking area in Soraypampa.

    1:30 PM – Buffet Lunch in Mollepata: Transfer in our transportation to the restaurant in Mollepata to enjoy a well-deserved Andean buffet lunch with a variety of hot dishes and vegetarian options.

    5:00 PM – Return to the City of Cusco: Arrival in the historic center of Cusco, ending near the Plaza de Armas.

  • Prior acclimatization: It is recommended to stay at least 1 or 2 days in the city of Cusco (approximately $3,400 USD) before this hike to avoid altitude sickness.
  • Footwear with good grip: Wear hiking boots or shoes with non-slip soles, as the trail is steep and has loose stones.
  • Warm clothing in layers: Temperatures near the lagoon can be cold and windy. Bring a thermal jacket, windbreaker, wool hat, and gloves.
  • Sun protection and hydration: Bring a hat or cap, sunglasses with UV protection, sunscreen (SPF 50+), and water for the hike.
  • Cash: Bring Peruvian Soles in cash for horse rentals, use of restrooms, or the purchase of snacks.

Is swimming or entering the lagoon allowed?

No. Entering or swimming in Humantay Lagoon is strictly prohibited to preserve the purity of its glacial waters, which supply the local communities.

It is a moderately difficult hike. Although the walking distance is short (approximately 2.5 km uphill), the terrain is steep and the elevation (4,200 m above sea level) requires a steady, gentle pace.

Yes, local community members offer horse rentals at the base of Soraypampa and along the first part of the ascent. Payment is made directly in cash to the muleteers.

The best season is during the dry months (May to October), when the days are usually clear, offering the best panoramic views of the lagoon and the Salkantay glacier.
